Thorverton changes

As you may know Thorverton Surgery merged with Newcombes Medical Practice in Crediton to form New Valley Practice. There was a further merger in April this year with Chiddenbrook Surgery in Crediton, to form Redlands Primary Care. https://www.redlandsprimarycare.nhs.uk/ Unfortunately this coincided with the departure of Dr Greg Davies and Dr Lucy Spriggs, leaving Dr Emma Ziegler as the only long term GP in Thorverton. This was compounded by another two of the Crediton based GPs going on maternity leave, leaving us reliant on locums. Given the national shortage of GPs we are delighted to have recruited five GPs and plan to have a team of four GPs to cover Thorverton. In mid September we will let patients know who their GP will be.

The new rota:

· Monday, All day – Dr Mike Kirwan

· Tuesday, Morning – Dr Natasha Dunn

· Wednesday, Morning – Dr Mick Braddick

· Thursday, All day – Dr Emma Ziegler

· Friday, Morning – Dr Mick Braddick

On afternoons when the practice doesn’t have a GP, patients may obtain help and advice from the main practice in Crediton.

Emma Ziegler will be well known to many of you, having been in Thorverton for 5 years. Mick Braddick and Mike Kirwan are long standing Crediton GPs who have been working at Thorverton over the past few months. Dr Natasha Dunn joins us from St Thomas in Exeter where she has worked for five years and is now looking forward to working in a smaller practice.

Following the retirement of Alison Ayres after 25 years as practice nurse we now have support from two Crediton based nurses:

· Wednesday morning: Christina Comont (special interests in Asthma and COPD)

· Thursday morning: Pauline Bird (nurse prescriber with special interests in hypertension, arterial disease and diabetes)

In October the two Crediton based branches of Redlands Primary Care move into a new purpose built building, just behind the large Tesco. We have every intention of keeping the Thorverton branch open. Your continued support and use of our services and dispensary only further cement our longevity in the village.

Please be on the lookout for a notice of an open evening which we are hoping to arrange soon for you all to have the opportunity to meet the new GPs, staff and management.

We want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and forbearance during this difficult period. We are working hard to bring a more settled service to you all.
