Call 999 if you see any single one of the signs of a stroke. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are around 100,000 strokes in England, Scotland and Wales every year, with around 33,000 stroke related deaths each year, as well as being a leading cause of disability. <\/p>\n<p>The <strong>F.A.S.T.<\/strong> (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) acronym provides a memorable way of identifying the most common signs of a stroke and emphasises the importance of acting quickly by calling 999.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-nhs-yellow-background-color has-background is-layout-constrained\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<p><strong>Think and Act F.A.S.T. if you see any single one of these signs of a stroke: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 <strong>F<\/strong>ace \u2013 has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile? <br \/>\u2013 <strong>A<\/strong>rms \u2013 can they raise both arms and keep them there? <br \/>\u2013 <strong>S<\/strong>peech \u2013 is their speech slurred? <br \/>\u2013 <strong>T<\/strong>ime \u2013 even if you\u2019re not sure, call 999. <\/p>\n<p><strong>When Stroke Strikes Act F.A.S.T. Call 999 <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A stroke is known as a \u2018brain attack\u2019. It is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention as every minute is vital. That is why calling 999 is so crucial. Early recognition of symptoms can give stroke patients those extra precious minutes, enabling faster access to specialist treatment. <\/p>\n<p>Whether it is a friend, loved one or even a stranger, dialing 999 quickly and <strong>acting F.A.S.T saves lives<\/strong> and gives stroke patients their best chance to access emergency procedures and to have recovery which could reduce the long-term effects such as a disability.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/stroke\/\">Get more information on NHS.uk<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Act F.A.S.T.
